Camping lights for tents, campsites and festivals

Campsites get properly dark. No street lights, no glow from the neighbours, just you and whatever you remembered to pack. Getting the lighting right is one of those small things that makes a trip feel organised rather than chaotic, and it costs very little to sort out.

Most people end up with more than one type, because they do different jobs. Our camping lanterns throw light in all directions, which is what you want inside a tent or on a table while you are eating. Our torches give you a focused beam for finding things in the dark and walking back across a field. Our head torches do the same job but leave both hands free, which matters more than it sounds when you are putting a tent up at dusk or cooking after sunset.

Then there is the light you want for atmosphere rather than function. Our tent and festival lighting covers string lights, glow sticks and hanging bulbs, the things that make a pitch feel like somewhere to sit rather than somewhere to sleep, and help you find your own tent among a hundred identical ones.

A sensible setup is one lantern per tent, a torch or head torch per person and something decorative if you are camping in a group. Rechargeable options save you carrying spares, though batteries still have the advantage that you can replace them in a field.

Pack a power bank to keep everything topped up over a weekend, and see our tents and shelters and camping chairs for the rest of the pitch.

FAQs

What lighting do you need for camping?

As a rule, one lantern per tent and one torch or head torch per person. Add string lights or hanging bulbs if you are camping in a group or want the pitch to feel more comfortable in the evening. It is worth having more than one light source in case something runs flat.

Should I choose rechargeable or battery powered camping lights?

Rechargeable lights work out cheaper over time and save you carrying spare batteries, but they need a power source, so pair them with a power bank for a longer trip. Battery lights have the edge when you are away from power for days, because you can swap cells rather than wait for a charge.

How many lumens do you need for camping?

Less than most people assume. Around 100 to 300 lumens is plenty for lighting the inside of a tent or a table, while 300 upwards suits walking about in the dark. Very high outputs drain the battery faster and are more likely to annoy the pitch next door than help you.

Can you use camping lights inside a tent safely?

LED lights are the safe choice because they stay cool and there is no flame. Hang them from a loop rather than resting them against the fabric, and never use candles or fuel lanterns inside a tent. Every light in our range is LED.

Are your camping lights waterproof?

Water resistance varies by product, so check the individual listing. Most camping lights are built to handle damp air and a shower rather than being submerged. If yours gets wet, dry it properly before storing it or charging it.
